The Avogadro Experiment Vernier Edition

The Avogadro Experiment Vernier Edition document uses the S17 Science Gas Kit Vernier Edition and Vernier's LabPro and pressure sensor to enable students to discover Avogadro's Principle. Students measure the pressure of several aliquots of two different gases. They then plot pressure versus aliquot. The resulting data coupled with the idea that each 20 mL aliquot of say carbon dioxide under the same conditions would have the same number of molecules enables students to conclude that "equal volumes of gases at the same temperature and pressure have the same number of molecules". This experiment is not found in texts but it is so fundamental to a student's understanding of introductory chemistry that it should be a part of every introductory chemistry course.
